Figure 1a. Included fatalities per year, counted from the live database. The scope opens in 1979; the interval 1979–1997 contains no documented records and is compressed into the marked band at the left rather than removed. Years within the documented span that contain no records are shown as empty. Records with an unresolved year are excluded from this figure only and remain in the database.
