About Iran Monitor
Iran Monitor is an open-source index that maps key individuals within the power structure of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The project presents publicly available information in a clear, structured, and hierarchical format.
The index focuses on one hundred individuals assessed to be among the most influential figures within the current structure of the Islamic Republic. While many more individuals hold positions within the regime, this selection highlights those considered most central to political, military, security, and institutional power.
The index contains more than 100 individuals. This number may increase over time as changes within the Islamic Republic lead to additional individuals being added to the list.
The individuals included in this index, and their placement across the different tiers, have been selected by the author based on personal analysis and experience studying the structure and functioning of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Any additions, removals, or structural updates to the index will be announced on the Updates.
The Four Tiers
Tier 1 — Supreme Leadership
This tier includes the Supreme Leader and the immediate inner circle around him.
Tier 2 — Strategic Leadership
Senior political, security, and military figures who influence national strategy and policymaking.
Tier 3 — Institutional Power
Individuals holding influential roles within major institutions such as military branches, clerical bodies, and governing councils.
Tier 4 — Former Officials
Former senior officials who previously held influential positions and may still shape political developments.
Verification and Sources
Individuals listed in the index are considered alive by default unless their death has been clearly confirmed through reliable reporting.
When a death is reported, a source is provided on the individual’s card so readers can verify the information directly.
Iran Monitor relies exclusively on publicly available information and is intended as a structured reference tool for understanding the hierarchy and key actors within the Islamic Republic of Iran.
